Dare to Speak Up

A crash course in speechwriting in which students will write and deliver a speech for the annual UN climate change summit. In this interactive workshop, students will work with political scientists and UEA students learning about the ways that speeches can inspire change by giving people new ways to think and good reasons to act.

  • Pupils will consider how their writing reflects the audiences and purposes for which it was intended
  • Speak confidently and effectively giving a short speech, expressing their own ideas and keeping to the point

  • The roles played by public institutions and voluntary groups in society, and the ways in which citizens work together to improve their communities, including opportunities to participate in school-based activities

  • The different ways in which a citizen can contribute to the improvement of their community, to include the opportunity to participate actively in community volunteering, as well as other forms of responsible activity
