In November this year, world leaders, climate experts and negotiators will meet at COP26 to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change. The decisions they make, or fail to take, affect the future of all of us.

If you were there, what would you say to them? How would you say it?

Write a speech as if you were speaking to the COP26 delegates for the chance of coming to UEA to work with speech writing experts.

What do I have to do?

Write OR record a speech all about climate change! The speech should be approximately 1 side of A4 in length, or 2-3 minutes long if recorded.

Send us your speech using this short form. If you're recording, check out our filming tips below before submitting.

You'll need to get your parent or carer's consent to enter so make sure you've chatted with them before you fill in the form.

I don't know where to start, what should I do?

You don't need to have any experience, we're excited to hear all of your ideas and it doesn't matter if you haven't written a speech before. This is all about making your voice heard, not being perfect so get stuck in and give it a go.

  • Workbook - collect your thoughts, get prepared and start writing your speech. This short workbook gives you the tools and techniques for writing and confidently presenting a powerful speech.
  • Filming tips - if you're recording your speech, here are some top tips on making sure your video is the best it can be, but we're not looking for it to be professional quality so don't worry too much about this bit

Who can enter?

Everyone aged 11-18 can enter, but you'll need to live in Norfolk or Suffolk to work with speech writing experts at UEA.

What can I win?

Take your speech writing to the next level with an immersive, interactive workshop with our speech writing experts. Join us on campus at UEA, in Norwich, on 4 December to get all the skills you need to become a speech writing pro.

Even if you're not a winner, we'll still be sharing your work far and wide. Look out for your voice being shared on UEA social media and if you submit your speech before 11 October, we'll show it Norwich Science Festival too.

How will you pick the winner?

There will be 9 winners overall - 3 from each each bracket (11-13, 14-16, 17-18). All entries will be reviewed by our expert panel and they'll be looking at how you use your voice to engage for change - your passion, your ideas and how you express them will all be considered.
